Egg Shaker Instrument Recall

27 March 2013

West Music announced the recall of its Basic Beat BB201 standard egg shaker instruments.   The end piece is glued to the top and can come off, posing a choking or aspiration hazard. The recall affects approximately 6,000 shakers that were sold at West Music stores, West Music Catalog, and from July 2012 through October 2012 for about $1.50 each.

The toy instruments have Lot Number 0E0212 located on the bottom of the roundest part of the egg.

Negligence in Nursing homes

7 June 2012

Two months after being admitted into a nursing home on August 26, 2004 a woman was found in bed with a spiral fracture of the left tibia and a fracture of the left fibula. Investigation determined that such injuries could not have occurred absent involvement of another person or persons. The injured woman was hospitalized, and, after treatment, was placed in a cast prior to her admission at a second nursing home. There, a pressure ulcer progressed and became infected, in addition to suffering from dehydration and malnourishment. As a result of alleged nursing home negligence, the resident died on Nov. 17.

A lawsuit was pursued based on alleged nursing home negligence and wrongful death, resulting in an out of court settlement.
