On Wednesday, October 24, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that HatsanUSA Inc., of Bentonville, Arkansas, is voluntarily recalling about 2,400 units of Hatsan Striker air rifles. These rifles were sold nationwide from November 2011 through July 2012 for between $100 and $130 at Dunham’s Sports, Sportsman’s Warehouse, and other sporting goods stores and gun shops.
Manufactured in Turkey, the recalled items involve 43 inch long Hatsan Striker air rifles that shoot pellets. There are three styles available: black with a gray forearm grip and gray rear grip; camouflage with a black forearm grip and black rear grip; and brown hardwood with crosshatching cut into the forearm grip and rear grip. Serial numbers of recalled rifles begin with one of the following sets of numbers: 0511, 0811, 0911, 1011, 0112, 0212, 0312, or 0412. The serial numbers are printed on the air rifle’s barrel block on the left side just in front of the rear sight.
The air rifles pose an injury hazard because they can fire unexpectedly when the closing the action during the cocking process.
