Acetaminophen was first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) back in 1951 as a safe drug. However, Tylenol, the popular over the counter drug, has now been reported to be a dangerous drug that causes liver damage. A Tylenol lawsuit calls for a recall of 30 Tylenol products and other medications manufactured by Johnson & Johnson.
Recently it has been reported that such acute liver failure could also happen in children. The main problem stems from often unintentional overdoses by prescription. There have been reports of more than 238 cases of children under the age of six suffering from acetaminophen toxicity. As a result, efforts are underway to make acetaminophen a controlled behind the counter drug.
