2 Overnight Crashes Involving Police Troopers

On a Tuesday night, June 26, 2012, two separate motor vehicle incidents occurred involving troopers . The first accident happened at 1:20 a.m. in Randolph when an alleged drunken driver was going the wrong way on Route 24 south. The driver struck a cruiser and three other vehicles. The trooper was not injured and the other two people involved in the accident suffered minor injuries. The drunk driver was arrested at the scene.

Later, at 2:45 a.m., a trooper, who had parked his police cruiser in a construction zone on the westbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike, was struck from behind by a car. The force of the impact caused the other vehicle to flip over, trapping the driver. The trooper and driver both suffered injuries.

Car crashes unfortunately are a fact of life, even for law enforcement officials entrusted with enforcing traffic laws. Although we hope of course that we and our loved ones will not be involved in any incidents on the roads, it is important to understand your rights should such an accident occur. The first step is knowing whether or not you even have grounds to file a claim for your injuries. The question whether the accused party was indeed negligent must be examined carefully before filing a claim. The facts of each individual case can be quite complex, requiring sifting through accident reconstructions, police reports, and insurance policies, among other inquiries. The accident scene should be investigated, coordinated (when necessary) with a proper team of professionals and experts, examining all evidence.
