The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a voluntary recall of 57,000 Holiday Rattle baby slippers by Atico International USA. The stuffing and rattle inside these baby booties can be pulled out, posing a choking hazard to young children. These slippers were sold at Walgreen’s stores nationwide from October 2010 through January 2011.
These slippers are decorated with stuffed fabric figures such as snowmen and Santa. They have rattles inside the slippers that sound like bells when shaken. The item number 999526 is printed on the back of the hardboard header card packaging, and “Find Your Joy” is printed on the front of the slippers’ packaging.
In a reported incident, a father pulled the stuffing out of his 7-month-old baby’s mouth after finding his child beginning to turn blue due to lack of oxygen.
Tragically, defective children’s products can cause death and debilitating injury to the most innocent of victims when their design is unsafe. At Swartz & Swartz, P.C., we have long been a leader in the fight to rid our country’s store shelves and toy boxes of unsafe playthings and children’s products. In the process, we have helped bring about improved standards, toy recalls, and safer designs.
